Fans are successful in persuading Anneke van Giersbergen to venture abroad for Latin-American Tour

HILVERSUM, the Netherlands – The foreign demand for Dutch music keeps on booming and for a prospering, international artist like Anneke van Giersbergen, touring abroad still remains a beautiful adventure. The countless pleas that were posted on her blog and website were proof enough that her Latin-American fans haven’t forgot about her since her last visit in 2007.

Latin-American Tour

Following her Dutch shows in February 2009, Anneke van Giersbergen (together with her band Agua de Annique), will play Brazil, Argentina, Chile and Mexico this March.
Triggered by the huge number of pleas (posted by Latin-American fans on various websites), local promoters decided to invite Agua de Annique abroad within two years after the founding of the band. Anneke van Giersbergen states: “It’s still an overwhelming feeling that people from another continent love my music, and I’m eager to play there again”. Her new acoustic album ‘Pure Air’ will also be released in Brazil and Argentina, as well. In addition to a Latin-American tour, several dates in Greece are also confirmed for February 2009.

Anneke van Giersbergen

In 2007 (after 13 years), she left the world-renowned band ‘The Gathering’. During her time with The Gathering she evened out the path for a whole new generation of female rock singers. Soon after her departure, she founded her own band ‘Agua de Annique’ and immediately claimed her place within the rock and indie genres. Her debut album with Aqua de Annique: ‘Air’, was subsequently released in 10 countries. 2008 was also the year that Anneke, for the first time, was strongly present in the Dutch music scene. Her duet 'Als je ooit nog eens terug kan', with Racoon-singer Bart van der Weide and Artists for Tibet, made it to #1 on the Dutch charts. Anneke also made a vibrant television appearance during the 'Fifty Years of Dutch Pop Music Quiz’ and an overwhelming rendition of Alanis Morissette's 'Ironic' during the '90's Request Week on Giel Beelen's morning show on Dutch National radio.
